Interview with Leading Makeup Artist Mia Connor on Her Bridal Makeup Tips
Mia Connor is one of Australia’s most loved and well known Makeup Artists. With her incredible talent she is not only an amazingly skilled makeup artist that takes her on travels around the globe, she is now an international educator and hair stylist, teaching her skills to makeup artists and lovers of the craft anywhere from Ireland to America.
In 2015 she won the title of Makeup Artist of the Year at the Australian Beauty Industry Awards, which is a huge achievement and she continues to blow our minds on Instagram with the amazing looks she creates.
On top of all this Mia still does bridal parties and has a wealth of knowledge about bridal makeup – yes she is one busy and amazingly successful woman. Beyonce move over….
Mia sat down with us to talk all things bridal makeup, from her best pieces of advice, products she loves and what not to do in the lead up to your wedding.
1. What is your number one piece of advice for brides in the lead up to their wedding when it comes to skincare and makeup?
Brides shouldn’t do anything too drastically different in terms of skin prep too close to the wedding date to avoid any Samantha from Sex in the City ordeals that makeup Artists can’t fix!
2. What is your most requested makeup look when you are working with a bridal party?
My most requested look for Bridal is usually softer neutrals paired with glowing skin & a nude lip. This is more so for bridesmaids as the look created must be suitable for a range of faces and features but I do like to tweak each person’s makeup but still keeping it in the same colour pallet so that each person feels comfortable rather than cloning every bridesmaid.
3. What are your favourite products to use for bridal makeup?
The products I use vary depending on the skin type I’m working on and the desired coverage and texture requested. I absolutely love the Stila Stay All Day Foundation from Mecca Maxima & the Esmi Skin Minerals Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum.
4. What are your tips for the bride the morning of the wedding?
Everyone on the morning of the wedding should cleanse and moisturise, especially if they are partial to dry skin.
5. Is there any other advice you can give to brides or makeup artists when it comes to bridal makeup?
In terms of advice to Makeup Artists, always ask for a reference picture before starting the makeup – preferably of your work so that you are both on the same page. If you notice that for example your client had requested a quite dramatic look and she is more on the natural side, ask her if she’s ever seen herself with such a strong look and if not, start on the lighter side as you can always deepen the makeup and add but it’s harder to take away.
Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us today. We are loving your advice and we know our soon-to-be brides will be loving it to.
